COHRE (Coalition for Human Rights Education (U)) plays a significant role in supporting health facilities to enhance community HIV prevention and awareness programs. This initiative is crucial in empowering individuals to take charge of their health, particularly regarding HIV essential for reducing the transmission of the virus and improving public health outcomes. These programs often include but not limited to providing information about how HIV is transmitted and the various methods available to prevent infection, such as safe sex practices, use of condoms, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and regular testing. We conduct campaigns that raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, dispelling myths and misconceptions surrounding the disease, which can lead to stigma and discrimination. We also encourage voluntary testing so individuals can know their status, early detection as a critical pathway to effective treatment and reducing transmission rates.
KEY FOCUS
The Coalition for Human Rights Education (COHRE) is actively engaged in advancing HIV prevention initiatives, with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through an Infectious diseases Institute sub grant. COHRE’s work focuses on key populations and adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) to promote HIV prevention through integrated services. We cordially extend these services to people living with HIV to promote adherence, drug distribution and any other counseling needs.
COHRE operates a drop-in center that serves as a hub for various services. This center provides information on HIV prevention, distributes self-testing kits, and offers crucial mental health counseling. Additionally, the center provides counseling for gender-based violence (GBV) and facilitates feedback mechanisms for any health-related needs of the community. This integrated approach aims to address the multifaceted challenges associated with HIV prevention and support the well-being of vulnerable populations.
